Outfit of the Day: Utility Jacket and Casual Vibes

A while ago, I was with a friend and I was helping her pick out some clothes for her trip to the mountains -Manel, if you’re reading this, I hope you had a good time! While helping her pack, I noticed a very pretty utility jacket buried in her wardrobe. When I picked it up and suggested it to her, she refused straight away.

“Oh no, those jackets will make me look too old! If anything, my mum would wear that.”

I don’t think I’ve ever been so offended instead of a piece of clothing! There’s no “shame” in looking “old” or anything. I don’t even know where this idea comes from, because you can look great at any age as long as you’re comfortable with your own style! Associating clothes with an age group is rather silly in my opinion, because the most important thing is to choose clothes that suit you as much as they appeal to you.

There’s no point in wearing clothes you don’t like just to ‘fit in’ with a style or trend!

So now that I’ve vented my petty grievances at the idea of people judging a piece of fabric, I can move on to something else that interests you more! In this case; styling a utility jacket.

The outfit I’ve come up with for the OOTD here is pretty cute and perfect for those milder days when you’re not freezing just by stepping outside! To cut the stiffness of some utility jackets, it’s perfect to choose a blouse or jumper in a softer colour.

I added a pair of canvas trousers for comfort and elegance! As for accessories, I wanted this outfit to be a bit more casual in the end, so I opted for some pretty trainers and a cute bucket hat. And don’t forget the extra flair added by a pretty golden necklace!
